Trump’s War Machine Targets Iran’s Naval Power as Gulf Tensions Explode

The US-Israeli offensive against Iran has now extended to the country’s naval capabilities, with a major Iranian warship used as a drone launch platform struck and possibly sunk during Friday’s military operations. President Donald Trump has authorized the targeting of every dimension of Iranian military power, including its ability to project force across the Gulf waterways that carry much of the world’s oil.
The naval strike came alongside sustained aerial operations against Iran’s land-based military infrastructure. American B-2 stealth bombers dropped dozens of 2,000-pound penetrating bombs on deeply buried ballistic missile launch sites. The defense secretary confirmed that US military operations were set to surge dramatically. Israel simultaneously issued mass evacuation orders in Lebanon covering over one million people and struck Hezbollah positions across Beirut. The IDF chief promised new phases of the operation.
Iran retaliated across the Gulf and beyond. Missiles and drones were launched at US military installations in Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. Some attacks were intercepted by air defense systems. Others caused damage, including strikes on hotels and a residential building in Bahrain. In Kuwait, where six American soldiers were killed earlier in the week, fresh waves of missiles and drones crossed the airspace and required air defense activation. Saudi Arabia and Qatar confirmed intercepting attacks on US bases within their borders.
The threat to Gulf energy infrastructure has alarmed international oil markets. Iran has specifically targeted oil pipelines and energy facilities alongside military bases. Oil prices have risen sharply since the conflict began, and analysts warn that further strikes on Gulf energy infrastructure could cause severe disruptions to global supply. The region produces a significant share of the world’s oil, and any sustained disruption would ripple through the global economy.
Trump has shown no concern about the economic consequences of the campaign. His focus remains on military objectives: degrading Iran’s capabilities, inducing regime change, and forcing unconditional surrender. The White House has not addressed the economic disruption directly. The defense secretary has not spoken publicly about the oil price implications. And the B-2 bombers that helped send prices higher continue to fly.
