The former Florida senator noted that Rodriguez stated Tuesday that respectful communication channels have been established with Washington, though her administration has not publicly responded to detailed American demands articulated during congressional testimony. These include privileged access for United States energy companies, mandatory purchases of American goods with petroleum revenue, and immediate termination of subsidized oil exports to Cuba.
Rubio emphasized that interim authorities have demonstrated cooperation through actions including prisoner releases ordered since Nicolas Maduro’s removal. He suggested that responsive behavior rather than public statements indicates interim government willingness to meet American requirements and characterized interactions as productive.
Democrats questioned whether cooperation with former Maduro regime members serves stated democratic objectives and expressed skepticism about the operation’s effectiveness. Senator Cory Booker challenged apparent contradictions between democratic rhetoric and collaboration with authoritarian holdovers including Rodriguez herself.
