Vietnam and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) are set to enhance their cooperative efforts, particularly among Hà Nội, Ho Chi Minh City, and Canberra. This decision follows discussions between Vietnamese Ambassador Phạm Hùng Tâm and ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr. The ambassador expressed optimism about Barr’s forthcoming visit to Hà Nội and Ho Chi Minh City, suggesting it could pave the way for new collaborative ventures.
Ambassador Tâm emphasized the promising potential for partnerships in areas such as renewable energy, innovation, education, tourism, and smart urban development. He also proposed the creation of a friendship and cooperation agreement between Hà Nội and the ACT to foster sustained collaboration across various sectors.
Chief Minister Barr, on his inaugural visit to Vietnam, acknowledged the country as a key economic partner for the ACT under its international engagement strategy. He expressed support for establishing a sister-city relationship with Hà Nội, highlighting the opportunities for joint efforts in green transition, electric transport, and renewable energy projects aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Barr also voiced his readiness to engage in public diplomacy activities during the visits of senior Vietnamese leaders to Australia, further reinforcing the commitment to strengthening ties between the regions. Through these initiatives, both parties aim to enhance mutual growth and development in vital sectors.
