Trump Calls Regional Chaos Proof of Iran’s Weakness as War Spreads From Tehran to Doha

As the Middle East war spread from its original flashpoints to engulf nations from Tehran to Doha, President Donald Trump interpreted the expanding chaos as evidence not of the conflict’s out-of-control nature but of Iran’s fundamental weakness. He called Iranian leaders “deranged scumbags” on social media, declared their deaths a personal honor, and promised that US strikes would grow even harder in the coming days. US and Israeli aircraft continued to pound Tehran as the sun set on what had become one of the most violent days of the conflict.
Qatar became the latest nation to experience the war directly on Friday when the country’s interior ministry issued evacuation orders for parts of Doha. Explosions were subsequently heard in the capital city before the defence ministry confirmed a successful missile interception. The episode underscored how far Iran had extended its campaign of attacks beyond Israel. Saudi Arabia intercepted close to 50 Iranian drones in a single intensive day. Two people died in Oman when drones crashed in an industrial zone near Sohar. Debris damaged a building at the Dubai International Financial Centre.
Iran has reported over 1,300 deaths since the war began with Israel’s killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Combined US and Israeli forces have struck more than 15,000 targets in the same period. Israel alone reported over 200 individual strikes in the most recent 24-hour window, targeting Iranian missile launchers, weapons factories, and air defences. Trump announced the complete military obliteration of Kharg Island late Friday, warning that the island’s oil infrastructure would be next if Iran kept disrupting Strait of Hormuz shipping.
Lebanon has been battered by the conflict, with over 600 killed and 800,000 displaced. Israeli forces killed eight more in Sidon on Friday. The Zrarieh Bridge was struck in a separate Israeli operation. Hezbollah launched rocket salvoes at northern Israel, injuring close to 60 people. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced new coordinated strikes on Israel in the name of al-Quds Day. Lebanon’s health ministry confirmed 600-plus deaths and 800,000-plus displaced since the fighting resumed.
Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei was described by US officials as wounded and disfigured, communicating only through written statements with no voice or video. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said Iranian leaders had “gone underground.” Thirteen American service members have died in the conflict, including six in a tanker aircraft crash in Iraq. France lost a soldier in Iraq to a militia drone. Tehran residents described a city of unceasing explosions, power cuts, rubble, and desperate people unable to flee. European nations have quietly sought safe passage for their ships through the blockaded Strait of Hormuz.
